TA: Bellin conducts special squat training to enhance explosive power. Pintus’ role in training is downplayed.
Recently, a photo officially released by Real Madrid of Bellingham holding a kettlebell hanging in mid-air during training sparked heated discussion. TA revealed the secret behind this "sumo-style plyometric squat" training and the physical training broadcast it represents after Real Madrid's new coach Alonso took office.
According to club sources, this seemingly strange training is a regular activation program performed by the entire team and is not exclusive to Bellingham. The core is to perform a "sumo-style squat" with the assistance of elastic bands and kettlebells, using plyometric muscle contraction to specifically train the players' thigh adductors and explosive power.
The training is one of many new methods introduced by new fitness director Ismael Carmenforte, who worked with Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen and has experience at Barcelona.
The arrival of Carmen Forte also marks a change in the club's physical training philosophy. It was revealed that the team's injury crisis last season led to "behind-the-scenes friction" between former coach Ancelotti and then fitness director Antonio Pintus.
Now, Pintus, who has won the trust of Florentino, has been appointed as the "performance manager" and has taken a secondary role in the team's daily training. Sources say he no longer travels with the team on road trips and wears suits rather than tracksuits at home games, a sign of his changing role. In the past, under Pintus, similar training was mostly done in the gym using expensive machines, but now the team uses the gym less frequently.
In addition to Carmen Forte, Alonso's team also introduced thermal imaging technology expert Ismael Fernandez and strength and conditioning coach Javier Anais, aiming to manage the players' physical condition in a more scientific and diverse way.
