Real Madrid official: The court confirmed that UEFA abused its market dominance and will recover significant economic losses

Real Madrid officially issued an announcement confirming that the European Super League had won the lawsuit against UEFA. A Madrid court dismissed UEFA's appeal, confirming that UEFA abused its market dominance in the European Super League incident.
Real Madrid Announcement:
Real Madrid Football Club is pleased that the Madrid Provincial Court today rejected the appeals filed by UEFA, the Spanish Football Federation and La Liga, confirming that UEFA abused its market dominance in the UEFA Super League incident and seriously violated the EU's free competition rules. This is consistent with the previous judgments of the EU Court of Justice.
The judgment opens up legal avenues for the club to recover significant economic losses.
Real Madrid also stated that it had held multiple rounds of dialogue with UEFA during 2025 in an attempt to find solutions, but the two parties failed to reach consensus on the following key issues:
• Establish a more transparent event governance model
• Ensure financial sustainability
• Strengthen player health protection
• Optimizing the fan viewing experience (including the implementation of a global free broadcast model similar to the FIFA Club World Cup)
In view of this, the club announced that it will continue to work tirelessly for global football and fan rights, and will also pursue relevant major economic losses from UEFA in accordance with the law.
According to AS reported, the Madrid High Court ruled in favor of the UEFA Super League in its lawsuit against UEFA for abusing its dominant position in European football competitions.
This new judgment, issued by a tribunal of three judges, is enforceable and confirms a previous order issued by the President of the 17th Commercial Court of Madrid. The order requires UEFA, led by Ceferin, to cease its anti-competitive conduct as the court found that it imposed unreasonable and disproportionate restrictions in breach of Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
The new ruling opens the door in the dispute to a possible multi-hundred-million-euro damages lawsuit by the European Super League against UEFA in the coming weeks, subject to a statutory settlement process before affected parties can make financial claims.
In 2021, UEFA took tough measures to suppress ESL, but these actions were later found by the European Court of Justice, the highest court of the European Union, to violate EU competition law. With this ruling, A22 resumed its proceedings in Spanish courts.
