Official: Matic and three other Ligue 1 players were punished for improper performance in anti-homophobia activities
French Professional Football League (LFP) announced on Wednesday that Ligue 1 players Jonathan Gladette (Lens), Matic (Lyon) and Ahmed Hassan (Le Havre) were punished for improper performance in anti-homophobic Day activities.
Gladdy was banned by the LFP Discipline Committee and immediately executed because of homophobic remarks made during the intermission between international anti-homophobic, cross-terrorism and terrorism days on May 17.
Ahmed Hassan and Matic refused to respond to the anti-homophobic day event, which required players to wear a badge specially designed by LFP, and Matic covered the badge with tape.
Both were sentenced to two immediate bans and two suspended bans, and promised to participate in football anti-homophobia and education activities within six months.
