Official: Naples is preparing to build a new stadium that will be able to host the European Cup
The results of the meeting between UEFA, the Italian Football Association, the city of Naples and the clubs in Naples were non-decisive and no decision was made.
UEFA conveyed the strict parameters needed to host the 2032 European Cup and emphasized that coordination between the club and the municipal government must be carried out to ensure the success of the project. Naples Club expressed the view that Maradona Stadium is not suitable for hosting the 2032 European Cup.
As some media have reported, UEFA and the Italian Football Association have not approved the project proposal proposed by the municipal government. After two years of research by technicians commissioned by the club, the premise of investing in Maradona Stadium has been ruled out. Even if the renovation plan envisioned by the municipal government cannot meet the standards that modern sports facilities must have due to their economic and financial shortcomings.
Naples Club intends to invest its own resources to build a new stadium, which will also be able to host the 2032 European Cup. To this end, the club has selected a declining area in the city. The construction of a new stadium in the area will make a significant contribution to the city’s rejuvenation plan without the public financial burden.
