reporter Yaron Weitzman reported that a source familiar with the Lakers and James revealed that James wanted to get an early renewal, but the Lakers were not interested in it.

There are also several sources in the league that said they predict that James wanted to sign a 1+1 contract, but the Lakers refused to provide such a contract.

"It seems that both of them are not communicating with this matter." A league executive said, "The Lakers did not provide an early renewal, which puts James in a difficult situation."

James currently has only one year left in the contract with the Lakers and will expire next summer.
